As Mondays go, today wasn't so bad. I woke up early but that went fine, popped a caffeine pill and a quick shower and I was off to the office. Somehow taking it in pill form makes it seem more honest than espresso. Plus, espresso's big flaw is that I have to manage to assemble the ingredients and prepare it before I get that first hit. Believe it or not, that's a tough proposition at 5:30am.

Played with a phone a certain mobile carrier loaned to us for the better part of the afternoon. It's pretty, and the features look nice at first, but the geek within me attempts to peel back the surface to discover that the surface has some industrial strength epoxy keeping it firmly attached. Fucking Ver... err... well, somewhere on the horizon, maybe they'll get a clue that people don't want a phone that's crippled for the sole purpose of charging me $2 for a crappy ringtone.

Tonight, though, was apparently feeding time for the masses. I picked up a swordfish steak at the grocery store on the way home and made a little impromptu marinade for it. Does (lemon juice + ketchup) == (orange juice + tomato paste)? Stay tuned to find out!

After tossing the fish and some corn on the grill, I thawed out Snake's frozen dinner of baby mice. He's been sleeping in his water bowl lately, probably since he's in the warmest room of the house. Poor fella. He snarfed down the little buggers post haste... he just shed his skin recently so I probably should feed him again in a day or two.

Went out and treated the Jibblies as well. They're brave and ravenous these days... the big guys snarf up the stuff on the surface, and then the little babies scavenge all along the bottom. Even Trogdor, the larger brother koi, has gotten brave. And bright. He was a lovely orange when I bought him, but he's an iridescent color something like a swimming flame now. Very, very pretty.

I only just now realized that swordfish and corn may be an odd combination, and it actually looks more like a pork chop in this picture. But the sweetness of the corn and the light sweetness of the marinade turned out to be an inspired pairing.

p.s. is it wrong to use dooce's glowy effect tutorial on food pictures?

That corn looks delish.
