I'm taking the rough approach to resynchronizing my sleep schedule this week. Today may not be pretty, but I'm up early and ready to go. Well, sort of.
You know, it was pointed out to me rather helpfully that I should leave diagnosis of psychological conditions to the experts, but I do wonder if there's some underlying environmental response going on. As far back as I can remember, heat and sunshine made me generally unhappy. My family can attest to my inexplicable buoyant moods every time the sky was overcast.
Interestingly, there do seem to be some articles out there regarding a version of seasonal affective disorder that influences people in the summer. Most people have heard about it in its winter depression form- the lack of daylight during winter months, especially in countries to the extreme north, can cause depression, listlessness, etc. It turns out that especially in countries closer to the equator, the summer version is actually more common than the winter one.
I wouldn't call it a diagnosis, but as the symptoms are thought to be triggered by heat... at least it's an excuse to keep my house extra frigid.

I suffer from the same infliction. I am on cloud 9 when it rains and my mood soars.
So, in retrospect, moving to Phoenix was a real moment of genius.

While I generally am in a better mood in the sunshine, the heat really does get to me. Today, I had a few moments that I'm blaming on it.
I freaked-out in a moment of dither at work which resulted in a rather conflict-laden arguement (VERY unlike me... I avoid conflict at all costs), then that led to a stress headache, and later I left my shopping cart in the middle of the aisle in Wal-Mart because I couldn't handle the outrageous number of white-trash customers that were in my way. Left the building and bee-lined it home for a nap in a cool, dark, safe room.
All because of the heat, I'm sure of it.

You know, I actually thought about that this weekend. You might be on to something, yo.
