I happened to have my travel-sized bottle of UK Marmite with me yesterday when Brian and I went to breakfast. He ordered a stack of toast and some plasticware to go. A few minutes later in Kiwanis Park... (from eighty paces, because I left my regular lens at home...)
I didn't eat very much of it, but I was surprised at the difference in texture. Vegemite is thick and sort of pasty; the texture reminds me a bit of cold ganache. Marmite (at least the British type, I haven't opened the New Zealand jar yet) is sort of... gloppy. More like hot tar. It was harder to spread evenly, and it seemed darker and generally more noxious looking. Tasted a little... harsher. I didn't use much, but it had a mouth-burning quality to it. And Brian complained about the aftertaste for the rest of the day.
After some difficulty locating a theater and a decent showtime, we managed to sneak in a viewing of
Serenity. I was impressed! I never got into Firefly when it was on, but the geek community seemed 75% enamored with the series. I've read that the movie is more satisfying if you've seen the television show, but the movie carried itself well despite the lack of back story.
I have a nauseating amount of bullshit to produce in the next two days at work. I think this is the first time I've ever deliberately attempted to cultivate mediocrity. Viva La Corporación!
I warned ya about the Marmite !
